The South Asian American Democratic Coalition of Silicon Valley was established:
To increase civic engagement and political participation in South Asian communities.
To educate the South Asian communities on the critical issues of importance to the community.
To provide opportunities for members to participate at all levels of the Democratic Party.
To assist in the election of Democratic candidates that are in alignment with the South Asian American Community values.
Programming:
Engage South Asian American youth and young professionals in civic participation
Outreach South Asian Americans at community events and festivals
Partner with SCCDP and clubs to conduct voter registration

Dr. Kalvin Gill, President
Dr. Gill came to America as immigrant for his better life. He joined Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority Board 2007 with the strong belief that everyone should have access to open space, including in the urban areas.
He born in farming family and helped his parent in the field during his childhood. His farming family always stressed the importance of education and he took that to heart and kept working and studying until he completed his Ph.D. in computer science and Doctor degree in Natural Medicine. His Highest priorities to preserve agriculture and urban open space land for public use.
He is the co- founder of three software startup companies and also the founder of Naturopathy Clinic. He is a former San Jose human rights commissioner and also serving many non-profit organizations in Santa Clara County. Dr. Gill is a former San Jose Punjabi Mela Board President and also still board member.
Raj Chahal, Vice President
Raj Chahal is currently serving as Councilmember for the city of Santa Clara since Dec. 2018. He also served as vice Mayor for the city of Santa Clara.
Raj Chahal has a record of leading in areas of business, non-profits, and community engagement.
In 2005, Raj Chahal co-founded a hardware manufacturing small business which is located in Santa Clara. He has served as a mentor for youth as a School Site Council member and as founding member/Scoutmaster of Troop 600, the first Sikh Boy Scouts Troop in the US. As former President of Santa Clara Sister Cities Association, Chahal helped make the city more globally connected and led youth cultural exchanges with our Sister Cities in Japan, Ireland, and Portugal. Mr. Chahal has M.S. in Physics and MBA from India.
He has served many organizations such as Commissioner, City of Santa Clara Planning Commission, Commissioner, City of Santa Clara International Exchange Commission, Member of City of Santa Clara Charter Review Committee, President of Santa Clara Sister Cities Association, Member of Sister Cities International NorCal Board, Founding Member/Scoutmaster of Boy Scouts of America Troop 600 (First Sikh Boy Scouts Troop in the United States), Board Member of Mission City Community Fund Board and Board Member of Santa Clara City Library Foundation & Friends
Murali Srinivasan, Secretary
Murali Srinivasan is the first Indian-American Vice Mayor and Councilmember of Sunnyvale city Council.
He has lived in Sunnyvale for over 26 years and has been involved in the city, community, and neighborhood for over 15 years. He has served many organizations as a volunteer and a leader. Sankara Eye Foundation, Leadership Sunnyvale, Sunnyvale Community Services, Sunnyvale Rotary, and Ortega Park Neighborhood Association. He also served on the Sunnyvale Sustainability Commission. He organized the first City-wide Diwali celebration in 2021. He was recognized as the “Distinguished Resident of Sunnyvale” in 2021.
He has master’s degrees from Stanford (Management) and Virginia Tech (Computer Science). He started and managed 4 startups and worked as executives at Sun microsystems, Ariba/SAP, Amazon, and GE.
Raj Bhanot, Treasurer
Raj Bhanot, a reputed chartered accountant from India, came to this country in 1981. He worked as a senior tax auditor for the state of California for 27 years.
Raj is servicing the Santa Clara Valley, Open Space Authority’ Citizen Advisory Committee member since 2015 and also an Advisory Committee member for affordable housing measures. He served as a human rights commissioner for nine years with the city of san Jose and human relation commissioner for the county of Santa Clara. He also served as a vice-chairman for the Asian Advisory Committee for the state of California. Raj is the co-founder of the Hindu temple and community center of Sunnyvale as well as the founder of Indo-American Society of Bay Area. He wants to unite the diverse community where all the community members can come and feel be proud. This place will serve as a hub of Religious, cultural and community activities in the Bay area.
Tara Sreekrishnan, Member-at-Large
Ms. Tara Sreekrishnan serves on the Santa Clara County Board of Education. She represents over 250,000 residents in Trustee Area 2 which spans the cities of Cupertino, Saratoga, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, San Jose, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, and Los Altos.
Tara graduated from Mills College, the oldest women’s college on the West Coast. After college, she set out to work as a community and political organizer for grassroots campaigns in our community and across the Bay Area.
Tara started a nonprofit and dedicated her work to expanding education and career opportunities for the next generation to succeed in a changing economy - she brings professional experience across every level of local government: school district, city, county, and state.
She has served in the role of Legislative Advisor at the City level, Policy and Outreach Director and Chief of Staff at the County level and as Legislative Director, Communications Director, and Deputy Chief of Staff at the State level. She has served as a top aide and advisor to State Senator Dave Cortese in the state legislature and the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.
Tara has served as a member of the Strong Start Coalition, which works to strengthen early care, health, and education for newborns and children up to age 8 across Santa Clara County.
Manjit Saini, Member-at-Large
Mr. Saini is a seasoned professional with broad experience ranging in civil engineering design, project management, and business operations to deliver transportation and water infrastructure projects in United States and internationally including Canada, India, and Africa. His background in environmental consulting, strategic planning, program development and implementation along with business operations make a positive impact to reduce the global warming caused by the carbon foot-print. He is deeply involved to find the right solution for Sikh community’s issues. He is a former San Jose Punjabi Mela board member.
Jaswant "Jessie" Singh, Member-at-Large
Mr. Jessie is serving as a Senior Tax Consultant in the Bay Area since 1993. He is providing Tax and Accounting Services for Individual & Business, Sales & Use Tax Filling, Payroll Services and Audit Representation to IRS, FTB, EDD & BOE. He is deeply involved to find the right solution for Indian community’s issues. He is a Past President San Jose Punjabi Mela and current board member as well.
